Together in the Overwhelmingness of Reality

Curated by Lea Paolini

The exhibition presents a collection of six bronze works by the American painter and sculptor, Wesley Eberle. All created on Hydra and cast in Greece using lost-wax casting, the works continue the exploration of form and perception present in Eberle’s painting.

“I have always been interested in how our interactions affect our perception of self and how this shifts and changes over time,” says Eberle. “Bronze as a medium provides an elegant permanence to these observations, allowing me to capture emotion, movement and change and preserve them in a single moment.”

Bronze also provides a unique connection to Greece, where in the Hellenistic period, it allowed Greek sculptors to make great advances in their depiction of the human form. Bronze’s relative strength and capacity to depict fine detail allowed Greek artists to move past the idealised form and explore human emotion and character.
